Empowering Women, Stitching a Brighter Future: ICAR-RCER Launches Sewing Training Under PRAYAS Initiative
In a significant step towards women’s empowerment and skill development, ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Region (ICAR-RCER), Patna, inaugurated a Sewing Machine Training Programme as a part of the PRAYAS initiative under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) Fund. The initiative was led by Dr. Anup Das, Director, ICAR-RCER, reinforcing the institute’s commitment to capacity building through agricultural and non-agricultural support.
As part of this programme, sewing machines were distributed to women in the previous year, and while some excelled in their craft, others required further training. Recognizing this need, a seven-day sewing training program started today i. e. 1st March 2025 and will continue till 7th March 2025, equipping participants with essential tailoring techniques.
During the inaugural session, essential sewing materials, including scissors, needles, and other accessories, were distributed to the trainees. The initiative aims to equip women with sustainable livelihood opportunities, fostering financial independence and social upliftment.A dedicated team of scientists and technical staff at ICAR-RCER, Patna, led by Dr. Shivani, Dr. Rajni Kumari, Dr. Rachna Dubey, Dr. Kumari Subha, Dr. Kirti Saurabh, Dr. Arti Kumari, and supported by Sh. Umesh kumar Mishra, Smt. Nupur Kumari and Smt. Usha Kiran, will ensure the seamless coordination of the Sewing Machine Training Programme.
The programme reflects ICAR-RCER’s ongoing efforts to integrate skill development with livelihood enhancement, ensuring a brighter future for rural communities.
