IAS Probationers interacts with the scientists of ICAR-RCER, Patna
A winter study tour of 18 IAS probationers of 2024 batch, out of whom 8 were females, was organized on “Exposure to Agricultural Scenario in Eastern India” at ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna on 3rd, February 2025. The meeting was attended by a 80 participants including Heads of Division, Scientists, Administrative staffs and students of the Institute.
Dr. Anup Das, Director, ICAR-RCER, Patna briefed about the agricultural scenario in country with particular emphasis to eastern India.Addressing the IAS trainees, he highlighted the major issues & challenges of agriculture in eastern India and discussed the contributions of the institute in the form of agricultural technologies, development of crop varieties and capacity building of stakeholders to tackle these issues. He also shared the roadmap of the institute withmajor focus on future farms, C farming, ecological farming, natural farming, smart agricultural practices, climate resilient technologies, agri-prenurship development etc for achieving vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The special guest Sh. Anjan Dutta, Director, DRDA urged the scientists of the institute to focus on agricultural development of the region and reach to maximum farmers by publishing articles of farmers’ interest in Hindi in national and local newspapers.
Earlier, Dr. Abhay Kumar, Principal Scientist and In-charge, PME Cell, warmly welcomed all the guest and gave a brief account of history and importance of ICAR-RCER, Patna. The Heads of Division Dr. A. Upadhyaya (Head, DLWM), Dr. Sanjeev Kumar (Head, DCR), Dr. Ujjwal Kumar (Head, DSEE), and Dr. Kamal Sharma (Head, DLFM) on their ongoing research projects to address specific related issues in Eastern India.
During the interactive session, discussions focused on the ways and means for faster dissemination of seedsimproved varieties and innovative technologies to farmers, best management practices in farming, contribution of women farmers in agriculture, the role of ICAR-RCER, Patna in advancing fish farming in Bihar, and solutions to address limited access of current affairs in agricultural academic programs.The students of the IARI-Patna Hub interacted with the IAS probationers on various aspects like balancing academic activities and preparation for competitive exams, women friendly technologies among others. The IAS probationers advised students to have self-belief and confidence for achieving success in career. Later on, trainees visited theexperimental farms and interacted on practical implications of agricultural research. At the end, Dr. Dhiraj Kumar Singh, Sr. Scientist, DSEE, proposed vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to all those who have contributed in the program.
