ICAR-RCER Promotes Balanced Fertilizer Use Among Farmers in Patna Village
An awareness programme on the “Balanced Use of Fertilizers” was organised by ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Region at Silhauri village under Dulhin Bazar block in Patna district on May 15, 2026, with an aim to promote sustainable and scientific nutrient management practices among farmers.
Addressing the gathering, scientists highlighted the adverse effects of excessive and indiscriminate application of chemical fertilizers, including soil degradation, declining crop productivity and environmental pollution. Farmers were encouraged to adopt soil test-based fertilizer application as recommended through Soil Health Cards to ensure efficient nutrient use and improved soil health.
The experts also stressed the importance of integrating organic sources such as farmyard manure (FYM), vermicompost, green manuring, bio-fertilizers and crop rotation with chemical fertilizers for maintaining long-term soil fertility and sustainable agricultural production.
A total of 35farmers, including7 women farmers, participated in the programme. Farmers actively interacted with scientists, sharing field-level challenges and discussing practical solutions related to nutrient management and crop productivity.
The programme was organised by Dr. Arti Kumari, Dr. Rachna Dubey, Dr. Abhishek Kumar Dubey and Mr. Prem Pal Kumar, Technical Officer of the institute.
The programme concluded with an appeal to farmers to adopt balanced fertilizer practices for achieving higher productivity while safeguarding environmental sustainability and soil health for future generations.
