Awareness Programme on Green Manuring and Balanced Fertilizer Use Organized at ICAR-RCER, Patna
An awareness programme on Green Manuring and Balanced Fertilizer Use was successfully organized at ICAR–Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna on April 21, 2026. The programme witnessed active participation of 20 farmers.
The session focused on enhancing farmers’ understanding of sustainable soil management practices. Experts elaborated on the concept of green manuring and highlighted suitable crops such as Dhaincha, Sunhemp, and Moong. The importance of leguminous crops in improving soil fertility through natural nitrogen fixation was explained in detail. Participants were informed how incorporation of green manure crops into the soil can significantly improve soil structure, organic matter content, and overall soil health, thereby reducing dependency on chemical fertilizers.
The programme also emphasized the importance of balanced fertilizer use. Farmers were advised to apply fertilizers based on crop requirements and soil testing to ensure efficient nutrient management. This approach not only helps in reducing input costs but also contributes to environmental sustainability and long-term soil productivity.
Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Head of the Division of Crop Research addressed the participants and shared valuable insights on sustainable agricultural practices. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Abhishek Kumar, Dr. Shivani, and Mr. Abhishek Kumar and others under the guidance Dr. Anup Das, Director, ICAR-RCER, Patna.
Farmers expressed satisfaction with the programme and appreciated the practical knowledge gained, particularly regarding balanced fertilizer application and eco-friendly farming practices.
