ICAR–RCER, Patna Organizes Workshop on Harnessing Remote Sensing, GIS & Machine Learning for Advanced Land and Water Management
A one-day workshop on “Harnessing Remote Sensing, GIS, and Machine Learning for Advanced Land and Water Management” sponsored by BAMETI, Patna, was successfully organized on 25/11/2025 at the ICAR–Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna. The workshop was attended by 24 participants from various wings of the Bihar Government, including 12 ATM/BTM, 6 Agriculture Coordinators, 4 Block Agricultural Officer / Block Horticultural Officer, and 2 Deputy Project Directors. The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. Ashutosh Upadhyaya, Director (I/C) & Head, DLWM, ICAR–RCER, who highlighted the transformative role of digital technologies in modern agriculture. He emphasized how artificial intelligence, machine learning, remote sensing, and GIS can significantly enhance resource-use efficiency, support climate-resilient agriculture, and strengthen scientific decision-making in land and water management.
Senior experts including Dr. Ujjwal Kumar, Head, DSEE; Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Head, DCR; and Dr. Kamal Sharma, Head, DLFM, also addressed the participants. They elaborated on the growing significance of AI and ML tools—such as classification algorithms, regression models, and predictive systems—in optimizing agricultural resources. The experts stressed that AI-driven analytics hold immense potential for developing climate-resilient and sustainable agricultural systems in the region. Throughout the workshop, scientists and specialists delivered thematic lectures covering modern smart tools, AI and ML applications, remote sensing–GIS techniques, machine and deep learning approaches, and smart technologies aimed at enhancing land and water productivity. The workshop concluded with an interactive group and panel discussion, where participants and experts exchanged ideas, identified field-level challenges, and explored collaborative avenues for integrating advanced technologies into land and water resource management.
