ICAR-RCER Patna Launches Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada Celebrating the Legacy of Bhagwan Birsa Munda

The ICAR–Research Complex for Eastern Region (ICAR-RCER), Patna, inaugurated the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada on November 1, 2025, commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda — a symbol of tribal pride and resistance. The program was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Anup Das, Director, ICAR-RCER, Patna, and graced by Dr. S. Kumar, Former Head, FSRCHPR, Ranchi, as the Chief Guest. The event witnessed the participation of scientists, technical staff, and tribal farmers.

In his inaugural address, Dr. Anup Das emphasized that the tribal way of life exemplifies sustainability, resilience, and collective spirit. He noted that tribal communities’ community-based approach to resource management and social participation offers valuable lessons for modern society. He also highlighted ICAR-RCER’s ongoing initiatives such as PRAYAS and Kaushal Se Kisan Samriddhi, which are dedicated to enhancing tribal livelihoods and skill development.

Dr. S. Kumar, in his address, reflected on the life and vision of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and underscored the potential of tribal farming systems. He encouraged scientific interventions and biodiversity conservation efforts that build upon indigenous knowledge.

Other dignitaries including Dr. Ujjwal Kumar, Dr. Ashutosh Upadhyay, Dr. A.K. Singh, and Dr. V.K. Yadav also shared their views on integrating traditional wisdom with modern technology, resource mapping, and capacity building for tribal empowerment.

Tribal farmer Mr. Dominic Oraon shared his experiences and insights on eco-tourism and traditional livelihood practices, emphasizing community-driven growth.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks and a collective commitment to make the 15-day celebration a meaningful tribute to the indomitable spirit of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and the tribal communities of India.
