Educational Agricultural Exposure visit of students of St. Michael’s School at ICAR-RCER, Patna

A group of 37 science club students of class XIth and XIIth including 20 girls from St. Michael's High School, Patna visited ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna, for an educational exposure program on agricultural research and innovations on 29th July 2025. Students visited under the guidance of Father Christu Savarirajan, accompanied by their physics teacher Mrs. Vanaja Devdoss.
To inspire young minds towards agriculture and allied sectors, Dr.Anup Das, Director of ICAR-RCER, addressed the students, highlighting the critical role of agriculture in ensuring food and nutritional security. He explained the organizational setup of ICAR and emphasized the importance of agricultural research in sustaining human life amidst the challenges of diminishing natural resources. Dr. Das also discussed strategies to tackle global issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and water scarcity in agriculture.
Dr. Rohan Kumar Raman, Senior Scientist presented the 25-year journey and contributions of ICAR-RCER in advancing agriculture in eastern India. Dr. Kumari Subha, Scientist, introduced the concept of nutri-gardens for producing healthy, nutritious food at the household level. Dr. Vivekanand Bharti, Scientist, demonstrated fish breeding in eco-hatcheries, integrated fish farming systems, and the relevance of Biofloc technology for landless farmers. Dr. P. C. Chandran, Principal Scientist, showcased endemic livestock breeds of Bihar and Jharkhand and elaborated on buffalo improvement programs for enhancing milk production.
The students gained valuable scientific agricultural insights from scientific interaction and exposure field visit. The exposure visit was well-coordinated by Dr.Anirban Mukherjee, Scientist, along with technical support from Mr. Amarendra Kumar, Mr. Sanjay Rajput, and Mr. Tarun Kumar. The visit provided an enriching experience for the students, encouraging them to explore opportunities in the agricultural sector.
