Team Work for Better Research: Dr. (Prof.) V. Geethalakshmi

An interactive session on “Agriculture During Amrit Kal: Issues and Strategies” was successfully organized on May 2, 2025, at the ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region (ICAR-RCER), Patna. The event focused on deliberating the future of Indian agriculture during the ‘Amrit Kal’.
The Chief Guest, Dr. (Prof.) V. Geethalakshmi, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, emphasized the need for innovation in the education system, problem-oriented research, agro-advisory services for farmers, and climate-resilient agriculture programmes for the strategic development of Indian agriculture.
Several eminent scientists and experts participated and shared their views:
• Dr. Joydeep Mukherjee, Principal Scientist, IARI, New Delhi, discussed the importance of precision agriculture in modern farming.
• Dr. Kamal Prasad Mohapatra, Principal Scientist, NBPGR, New Delhi, highlighted the significance of systematic and collaborative research.
• Dr. S.K. Purbe, In-charge Director, MGIFRI, Motihari, stressed the transition from quantity to quality research and the need for industry-driven technologies.
• Dr. S.P. Singh, Head, CPRS, Patna, explained the strategic importance of potato production in agricultural development.
• Dr. Samarendra Hazarika, Head, DSRE, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya, spoke about major challenges like soil degradation, climate change, and declining groundwater levels.
• Dr. K.K. Satpathy, Ex-Director, ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata, highlighted the role of recent scientific technologies in enhancing research efficiency.
• Dr. Ujjwal Kumar, Head, DSEE, ICAR-RCER, Patna, elaborated on the institute’s socio-economic research activities and the crucial role of extension researchers in disseminating developed technologies to farmers' fields.
Earlier, Dr. Anup Das, Director, ICAR-RCER, Patna, welcomed the dignitaries and briefed them about the institute’s multifaceted efforts in research, extension, training, and education. He shared valuable insights into the major achievements of ICAR-RCER, ongoing flagship initiatives, and the strategic roadmap for the future growth and impact of the institute in Eastern India.
“The interaction meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Shanker Dayal, Principal Scientist, ICAR-RCER, Patna, who warmly acknowledged all the guests for their insightful contributions and encouraging words”, said Sh. Umesh Kumar Mishra, Member Secretary, Media, ICAR-RCER, Patna.
