Field Day on Pest and Disease Management in Direct-Seeded Rice Held in Gaya Ji

A Field Day on Pest and Disease Management in Direct-Seeded Rice was organized under the Rice-Fallow Project by the ICAR–Research Complex for Eastern Region (ICAR-RCER), Patna, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Manpur, Gaya on September 18, 2026. District Agriculture Officer, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Block Agriculture Officer and other officials of the Agriculture Department, along with around 100 local farmers, participated in the programme.

Shri Sanjeev Kumar, District Agriculture Officer, Gaya Ji emphasized the need for wider adoption and promotion of direct-seeded rice technology among farmers. He visited the demonstration field, observed the crop condition and appreciated its progress. He suggested that farmers from other blocks of the district should also be taken to the demonstration field to help them understand the technology and its practical benefits through firsthand experience.

During the programme, farmers were briefed on the major advantages of direct-seeded rice, identification of major pests and diseases, and their integrated management. Experts emphasized the importance of regular crop monitoring, early identification of pests and diseases, and timely adoption of appropriate management measures as per the prevailing situation and recommended practices.

Scientists and subject-matter specialists demonstrated various aspects of direct-seeded rice cultivation, crop management, and pest and disease management at the field site. Farmers actively interacted with the experts and raised queries related to crop management and pest and disease management, which were addressed during the programme.

The programme was attended by the Head, scientists and subject-matter specialists of KVK, Manpur, Gaya, along with Senior scientists (Dr. P.K. Sundaram and Dr. Rakesh Kumar) and technical personnel of ICAR-RCER, Patna.

The Field Day aimed to promote direct-seeded rice technology among farmers for the effective utilization of rice-fallow land, reduction in cultivation costs, efficient use of resources, and sustainable and profitable rice production.
