ICAR-RCER Organizes Hands-on Training on Laboratory Skills and Entrepreneurship

A four-day hands-on training programme on “Laboratory Skills and Entrepreneurship: A One Health Approach to Soil, Animal, and Human Health” started at the ICAR–Research Complex for Eastern Region (ICAR–RCER), Patna, on August 18, 2026. The programme, which will continue till August 21, 2026.

A total of 16 students pursuing Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. programmes in Botany, Zoology, Biotechnology and Pharmacy are participating in the training. The programme will provide practical exposure to laboratory safety, safe handling of chemicals, operation of laboratory equipment and basic microbiological techniques. Participants are also being given demonstrations of various experimental procedures to familiarize them with modern laboratory practices and research methodologies.

Dr. Anup Das, Director, ICAR-RCER, Patna, emphasized the importance of combining scientific knowledge with practical laboratory skills and entrepreneurship to prepare young students for research, innovation and future career opportunities. He said that such hands-on programmes help bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world scientific applications.

As part of the programme, a guest lecture on the One Health approach was delivered by Dr. Purushottam Kaushik, Professor and Head, Division of Veterinary Public Health, Bihar Veterinary College. He highlighted the interconnectedness of human, animal and environmental health and emphasized the importance of an integrated approach in addressing emerging health challenges.

Dr. Kamal Sharma, Head, DLFM; Dr. Shivani, Principal Scientist and other scientists and staff were also present during the programme. The training is being organized under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) to enhance the technical competence, research orientation and entrepreneurial capabilities of young students through practical learning and interdisciplinary exposure. translate into Hindi
