Farmers Trained in Two Villages of Bhojpur District Under “Khet Bachao Abhiyan”

Under the “Khet Bachao Abhiyan”, ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna organized farmer awareness and training programmes in two villages of Sahar block, Bhojpur district on June 22, 2026. The programme aimed to sensitize farmers about scientific farming practices, balanced nutrient management, crop protection measures, and soil health conservation for sustainable agricultural production.
The first programme was conducted in Dhanchhua village of Sahar block, Bhojpur, where a total of 30 farmers participated, including 27 male and 3 female farmers. The second programme was organized in Koni village under Chauri Panchayat of Sahar block, Bhojpur, with the participation of 31 farmers. The training programmes were attended by experts from ICAR-RCER, Patna, including Dr. Pankaj Kumar, Dr. Manoj Kumar Tripathi and Mr. A. S. Mahapatra. Dr. Vikas Singh, SMS from KVK, Ara, also participated in the programme.
During the training, the experts highlighted the importance of balanced fertilizer use and emphasized that fertilizers should be applied based on soil testing. They explained that soil test-based nutrient management ensures the availability of essential nutrients to crops in the right proportion, reduces production costs, and enhances crop productivity. The experts also advised farmers to avoid the indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers and encouraged the adoption of Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) practices.
The farmers were also informed about the significance of green manuring. The scientists explained that crops such as dhaincha and sunnhemp can be effectively used as green manure to improve soil fertility. Incorporation of these crops into the soil increases organic carbon and nitrogen content, improves soil structure, and helps maintain long-term soil productivity. Detailed information was provided on the cultivation of dhaincha and sunnhemp during the kharif season and the techniques and benefits of incorporating them into the soil.
The programme also included an interactive session during which farmers’ queries and field-related problems were addressed by the experts. The participating farmers appreciated the training and described it as highly beneficial.
